Skunk Removal
Skunks are nocturnal creatures a part of the weasel family.
Skunks have an anal scent gland that produces a pungent secretion when the creature is threatened. Skunks are black and white, have short stocky legs, and well developed claws suitable for digging. The striped and the spotted skunk can both be found in Tennessee.
Signs You Have A Skunk
If you continue to smell a pungent outside odor, find shallow holes that are 2-3 inches around and 3 inches deep in your yard, and notice the disappearance of garden vegetables such as corn, (ears taken about ground level), you may have a skunk. Skunks don’t spray unless they feel threatened. They will generally show several signs before spraying including grunting, stomping their feet, turning around, and standing on their front legs. If sprayed by a skunk, try to avoid being sprayed in the eyes, or ingesting it. Flush eyes out with lukewarm water, and seek medical advice. If musk is inhaled it may cause head-ache or dizziness, seek help if needed
Prevention and Removal
Clean your yard from trash, vegetables, and fruits. Debris, and lumber should be cleaned up to reduce living areas. Skunks are also drawn in by rodents; keeping barns, feed houses, and so forth tidy will help.
